Whether it’s that end-of-year function, a milestone birthday, or a charmingly unique wedding reception your friends and family will never forget, Bouchon Wine Bar and Bistro’s private cellar is the perfect option.

Set in the heart of Cape Town’s city centre on Hout Street, Bouchon Wine Bar and Bistro’s private cellar table has become THE place to host a special event and there are a number of good reasons why.

Firstly, the venue is unlike anything you’ll find in the city centre. To experience the charm of a winery and cellar you’d usually have to travel to the Constantia Wine Route or further afield to Stellenbosch and beyond, but hidden away just off Cape Town’s trendy and buzzing Bree Street is the Dorrance Wines Urban Winery and it is right in the middle of this working winery that Bouchon has its home.

When you walk through Bouchon’s big wooden doors you arrive at their restaurant seating area, which is cosy and intimate and overlooked by an open kitchen where one can watch Bouchon’s talented chefs as they work their magic. Separated from the restaurant by a glass wall is the Dorrance Winery and this is where Bouchon’s private cellar table can be found.

Surrounded by wine barrels, and gently lit by wrought iron chandeliers, the private cellar table accommodates 30 guests. One can’t help but feel as if you’re sitting in a cellar in the middle of France. Needless to say, it’s an unforgettable experience.

Bouchon’s menu is just as impressive and another reason why both Capetonians and visitors alike are flocking here. The menu is concise yet sophisticated, comprising of Tapas and Desserts, and seasonal so it changes regularly according to what is available.

The tapas menu offers a finely balanced selection of homely classics, such as the popular wild mushroom gnocchi, and pea and artichoke risotto, as well as carefully curated delicacies such as seared scallops, pig heads, duck liver, and ox tongue. You can also at times find Foie Gras served with crispy sourdough, caramelised onions & pickles on the menu.

Bouchon’s desserts are to-die-for and you can expect dishes such as a Crepe Suzette with citrus butter sauce, or their Baked blueberry cheesecake with a berry & mint salsa. Their local cheese & meat platter with toasted sourdough is also a firm favourite for ending off a meal.

And lastly, what would dinner in a wine cellar be without fabulous wine! Bouchon’s wine list embraces both local and international gems and there is something special to suit every taste.
