Earlier this month, a journalist from CNBC interviewed 50 travel enthusiasts, experts and agents, asking each of them for their favourite city in the world in an effort to compile a “7 Cities You Must Visit Before You Die” list.
Following the collection of data and completion of the final task, Cape Town has landed fourth on that list, right after Paris, Rome, and New York City.

Due to its exceptional blend of breathtaking natural beauty, extensive history and culture and exciting city life, Cape Town is a favoured destination for tourists.
Table Mountain, one of the most well-known landmarks in the world, serves as the city’s backdrop, and breathtaking beaches and a picturesque coastline surround it.
This month, Sharael Kolberg, a travel journalist and author who contributes to CNBC USA, wrote the following:
“Traveling is one of the most meaningful experiences you can have in life. It’s an opportunity to see the world differently and learn about new cultures.”
“But what are the cities you must visit before you die? It can be hard to narrow down. As a travel journalist of over 20 years, I recently interviewed more than 50 travel enthusiasts, experts and agents. I asked each of them for their No. 1 picks.”
Kolberg’s “7 Cities You Must Visit Before You Die” list:
1. Paris, France
2. Rome, Italy
3. New York City, U.S.
4. Cape Town, South Africa
5. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
6. Tokyo, Japan
7. Istanbul, Turkey
In 2022, Cape Town achieved a number of accolades, including being named one of the friendliest cities in the world, joining the top cities on an “A-List” for environmental impact, being one of the world’s best cities in 2022, and ranking second in “Africa’s Top 10 Most Picturesque Running Cities,” to name a few.
Needless to say, there are many reasons to be proud of our city.
