Cape Town’s fynbos photographer connoisseur has done it again with another explosive Floristic Fireworks series. Andrew Baxter is the creative genius behind the lens and this time, he’s sharing an important message alongside his snaps.
“I don’t like fireworks. Neither do animals. Fireworks are not kind to the environment,” Baxter says.
And so, for Diwali and Guy Fawkes, Andrew has offered us all a stunning alternative, and no-less spectacular, visual display — his Floristic Fireworks, of course.
These floral portraits are all taken in the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens in Cape Town.
The ‘fireworks’ are all Proteas, endemic to the unique fynbos vegetation of the Cape Floral Kingdom. They are all Leucospermum species.
Amazingly, these are not studio images. They are photographs of living flowers growing in the botanical gardens and captured during low light, with dark backgrounds using supplemental light.
“May millions of floral ‘lamps’ illuminate your life with endless joy, prosperity, health and wealth forever. Wishing you and your family a very happy and safe Diwali!”
