“The early bird catches the worm,” or in this case, the sunrise. Cape Town is home to some incredible hiking trails that ensure mesmerising views of our beautiful city and a dazzling display by Mother Nature. Say good morning, and start your day off on the right foot with these easy-breezy trails perfect for a lekker sunrise.
Kloof Corner
Kloof Corner is well-known for hiking, and if you’re willing to work for it, it offers incredible panoramic views of Cape Town and is the ideal spot to watch the sunrise. The trail begins at Tafelberg Road and includes a steady incline, a path that slowly begins to zigzag, and 215 stairs that you’ll need to climb. In total, you can expect to follow this trail for approximately 30-minutes. It’s also great for all fitness levels, including beginners.
Cape Point
Cape Point is home to some incredible views and hiking trails that would make any hiker swoon. The rugged coastline, white-sandy beaches and tons of history (including a shipwreck) makes this a fantastic spot to enjoy the sunrise or sunset. The only downside is that it’s not free, with locals and international travellers needing to pay a designated fee. But if you’re willing to splurge, you will not be disappointed!
Pipe Track
Heading back to something a little closer to home, the Pipe Track is a great place to start for those who are looking to dive into the world of hiking. It’s a steady walk that requires little effort and epic views of Cape Town’s famous coastline. It’s also the go-to place for those looking to get their endorphins pumping while enjoying the sunrise with other avid hikers.
Lion‘s Head
It would be a complete travesty if we decided to exclude this rite of passage from our hiking list. Can you even call yourself a local if you haven’t dragged yourself up the slopes of this iconic mountain? If you’re looking to get your morning workout and enjoy some incredible views of the Mother City, Lion’s Head is the perfect spot. The only downside is that you may find that every Cape Town local is clambering to get to the top, and it can get a tad busy at times, but it provides an exhilarating two-hour hike (approximately) to the top.
