Stepping Into Your Power by Micaela
The current exhibition on show at Ground Art Caffé is titled ‘Stepping Into Your Power’ by Micaela and will be available for public viewing until 1 August 2023.
‘Stepping Into Your Power,’ an art series by Micaela Pretorius, delves into the profound concept of embracing one’s personal power, a journey that began in the artist’s life around February last year.
Micaela’s work delves into the transformative process of claiming one’s power, which she describes as a candid and introspective conversation with oneself. Making peace with various aspects of one’s identity and acknowledging the allure of toxic love while finding the courage to embrace healthier forms of love and self-acceptance are all part of the process. Micaela’s art encourages viewers to reflect on their own paths to empowerment and to recognise the importance of embracing personal growth and healing.
‘From yourself and others Stepping into your power can feel like a beautiful, painful, peaceful and chaotic journey. Dark maroon – a colour symbolic of passion and love – has rarely graced my canvas over the years. The colour was like a surge of energy that had to be released. I was falling in love. The shedding of blood and the shedding of one’s self are forever changing.’
Born in 1995, Micaela spent her formative years in the picturesque town of Plettenberg Bay, South Africa. In 2015, she pursued her passion for photography by studying the craft in Cape Town. Eager to expand her creative repertoire, she subsequently embarked on a videography short course with Orms.
Micaela’s artistic journey was influenced by her upbringing in the world of interior decorating, courtesy of her parents’ business, Bay Decor. Today, she thrives as a talented photographer, filmmaker and artist, dividing her time between Plett and Cape Town.
Known for her distinctive style, Micaela captures her personal experiences through impressionistic yet modern acrylic paintings. Her works exude a sense of grace and joy, with vibrant splashes of colour occasionally breaking up the soft and delicate palette. Micaela’s aesthetic decisions are intuition-driven, allowing her artistic instincts to direct each brushstroke rather than following predetermined plans.
Micaela’s paintings elicit a peaceful, calming and emotional response, drawing viewers into her world through expressive gestures and masterful brushwork. Plettenberg Bay’s breathtaking scenery is just one of the many sources of inspiration for her artistic style. By infusing her unique perspective into familiar subjects, she crafts a visual experience that sparks the imagination and captivates the observer.
Ground Art Caffe is more than a coffee shop; it is a sensory oasis dedicated to providing a sanctuary for creativity and relaxation to those seeking solace and inspiration.
