‘Thank you so much for your support. Your generosity means everything to me. I know you have a lot of choices when it comes to donating, and I’m so grateful that you chose to contribute to my journey. I promise to be responsible stewards of both your donation and trust. I have a lot of work to do and your support will help me get that important work done.’ – Vukile.
Vukile ‘Old Bones’ Magwaca, a Cape Town boxer hailing from East London, discovered his love for the sport at the age of eight. What began as a playful pastime transformed into a profound passion and eventually a life-altering profession.
From 2009 to 2018, Vukile amassed an impressive collection of championship belts, including WBF All African, IBO Intercontinental, WBA, International WBF world title, and IBF International.
As his career soared, Vukile aimed for a significant fight that not only promised personal growth but also the potential to make a difference in his South African community. However, in 2018, tragedy struck.
Vukile was shot in the leg at his Khayelitsha home, plunging him into a period of uncertainty – from questioning his ability to walk again to redefining his path.
He found strength in coaching at the gym (children and adults alike) and, with support from PFA co-owner Mike Mouneimne, began fighting his own fight again.
In a remarkable comeback, Vukile is now gearing up for a WBC International title fight in Mexico. Scheduled for October 20 in Fresnillo, Mexico City, Bryan Mercado stands as his unlucky opponent in this eagerly awaited match.
Help Vukile get there:
Our local champ needs the support of the Cape Town community to get to Mexico and put on the fight of his life. Proceeds will go towards travel and VISA costs, gear, nutrition and supplementation, as well as physio treatments to ensure that his leg is in top condition.
