Are you looking for your prince? We might have found him, albeit in a different form than you were expecting. Prince the horse has had a tough journey to recovery after being found abandoned and starved. Now, he is looking for his forever home.

Prince, a sweet natured and sensitive 3- to 4-year-old 11.3 h gelding was nursed back to health by the SPCA after being close to death.

“Prince was found lying abandoned in a sandy canal. Emaciated, he had been beaten and forced to walk until he couldn’t anymore; this incredible boy had given up and laid down to die,” explains the SPCA.

“Thankfully a kind passer-by notified our SPCA Horsecare Unit and we were able to come to Prince’s rescue. But, even with lots of gentle encouragement, Prince was unable to stand up on his own. He had to be rolled onto a blanket and carried into the horsebox.”

After months of love, care and attention from the SPCA’s animal hospital, vets and horse care team, Prince has made an incredible recovery and this special boy is now looking forward to his second chance.

The SPCA are looking to a kind and experienced person to adopt Prince, and give him his fairytale ending.

“Prince is very sweet with mares and other geldings and fits in well. Due to his sensitive nature and awful past life, Prince can be skittish and will suit an experienced owner, said the SPCA. “Prince will be a very special companion for someone with time and patience as he has so much love to share.”

To arrange an appointment to visit their Horsecare Unit and meet Prince, please fill in their online adoption enquiry form HERE and/or contact Senior Inspector Emma Linsell on 021 700 4173 or [email protected]
