There have been many moments in life when I’ve needed a little pep talk. A sprinkle of inspiration. A ray of sunshine on a dark and damp day. Some creative stimulus for those days when the creative cogs in my brain would grind to a halt writes Cape {town} Etc‘s Lynn Cupido.
I refuse to believe that I‘m the only individual on this planet that has grabbed their laptop and entered the words: inspiring TED talks. A drizzle of creative magic from Elizabeth Gilbert or a few nuggets of wisdom from an iconic woman like Tracee Ellis Ross – there are literally TED talks to suit every mood.
“Ideas worth spreading” is the slogan that the global organisation TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) has nurtured since its inception in 1984, delivering short talks from leading thinkers and doers.
But did you know that this concept has spread to cities such as Johannesburg and Cape Town? South Africa is bursting at the seams with innovators and thought-leaders ready to get their ideas out there, but they often don’t have the platform (or stage) with which to do it.
TEDxCapeTown is just the platform that these individuals need, enabling them to share their incredible ideas with an engaged and open-minded audience.
Thankfully, inspiration and thought-provoking conversations are just around the corner as the independent organisation is set to host their main event: The Power of X.
On November 28, TEDxCapeTown will be celebrating a decade of “ideas worth spreading” by unpacking and exploring this theme.
“The X is who we are, what we’ve accomplished over the last 10 years and, most importantly, the X is you. Because together we can innovate, create and push the boundaries of what is deemed possible in our communities, our country, our continent and the world.“
15 everyday speakers, just like you and I, will be looking to make waves of change by setting foot on the main stage. Speakers will be diving into topics such as how to take the necessary environmental actions to the reimagining of roles within corporations. Check out the full speaker list here.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has put a damper on meeting these wonderful speakers in person, but this virtual event will offer each audience member a front-row seat to a stimulating conversation.
