Gather your picnic baskets, prepare to go on a Jimmy Nevis and Jeremy Loops lyrics revision session if you must, and tell Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens that you’ll see them soon because the long-awaited Summer Sunset Concerts are just on the horizon.
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens will soon be alive with the sound of music thanks to two of Cape Town’s iconic voices, Jeremy Loops and Jimmy Nevis.
Jimmy, the renowned RnB star of the city who had us all heartboxing for the first time not so long ago, is kicking the Garden jam off in just a few weeks’ time. The concerts are a long-awaited pair, existing as the first gig at the Garden since the start of the pandemic. Of all the eager beavers ready to hear his honey-sweet melodies, Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis is at the top of the list.
Hill-Lewis is also set to cut the ribbon as the Summer Sunset Concert kicks off with Jimmy.
Sarah Struys, Events and Tourism Manager at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden says that “it is an honour for us to welcome the Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis to officially re-open our much-loved concert venue for two, not-to-be-missed, once-ff concerts from two of Cape Town’s favourite sons.”
If you didn’t know, this is Jimmy Nevis
Jimmy found his sublime, sweet-sounding vocal range at a young age and quickly won the hearts and souls of all Pop/RnB lovers everywhere – his boyish good looks didn’t hurt either. His hits are too many to mention, his collaborations read like a well-in-the-know music list and his industry achievements are just simply off the charts.
However, it’s really his down-to-earth stage persona and personal audience pulling power that cemented him as a true legend.
“We’ve been enjoying Jimmy’s company at the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts since he began his now superstar-status singing career. His ability to musically connect comfortably with people of all ages and creeds is quite remarkable and a pleasure to be a part of. He’s now celebrating a decade of success in the industry,” adds Sarah.

Live performances are coming back faster than a diss track
COVID-19 separated people from live performances for far too long. Mayor Hill-Lewis acknowledges the fact that the creative industry has been hit hard as a result, specifically for live music performances with crowds and the venues that host them.
“The Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts have become a true Mother City institution over the years, attracting thousands of local and international music lovers – and their picnic baskets – to one of Cape Town’s Big6 signature attractions.
“It’s always been the ideal setting for all of us to relax together, rebuild and unite with music, the international language we all love and understand. I’m privileged to play a part in the rebirth of these events and experiences. My family and I are really looking forward to welcoming and enjoying Jimmy’s super-popular, captivating sounds” said Hill-Lewis.
Werner Voigt, Curator of Kirstenbosch adds that he’s really missed the bus of the concert vibes and crowd, albeit now in fairly limited numbers.
“We can’t wait to welcome the people of Cape Town back to enjoy some of the best local music in our beautiful Garden.”
Jeremy will be on our radar soon!
