There’s nothing quite as liberating as the open road. Whether it’s a short or long road trip, we’re purely spoilt for choice when it comes to different spots to stop off at while enjoying mesmerising views thanks to our beautiful Mother City.
Not only do these few spots have breathtaking views, but they also make for some of the most memorable picnic spots to take family, friends and significant others.
Pack in some mandatory road-trip snacks or stop off at the nearest café, takeaway or garage, get cosy in the car or set up your picnic outside if the weather’s good, and soak in all the natural beauty Cape Town has to offer.
Chapman’s Peak
A popular scenic drive amongst locals. Chapman’s Peak has endless ocean views with many stop-off points to admire the view.
Boyes Drive
This destination boasts spectacular views of Muizenberg Beach, but if you follow the road around the mountains behind False Bay, you will witness views of the harbour too.
Signal Hill
Based in the heart of the Mother City, Signal Hill is the ultimate provider of panoramic views of our beautiful ocean and city at any given time, from sunrise to sunset.
Steenbras Mountain Pass, Gordon’s Bay
This pass connects Gordon’s Bay to the R44 and Clarence Drive. The Steenbras Dam is at the top, but permit holders may proceed. However, it offers breathtaking views during both the day and night.
Sir Lowry’s Pass
Another very popular pass featured on the N2 national road. It crosses the mountain between Somerset West and the Elgin Valley, promising views that’ll instantly fill you with a sense of peace and contentment.
