Alaine Fielies, a twelve-year-old from Mitchells Plain, is on a mission to represent Western Province at the South African Japan Karate Association (JKA) championships in Johannesburg this May and she’s reaching out to the community for support to make her dream a reality.
According to IOL, her journey in karate began at a young age when her grandfather introduced her to the sport while she was in Grade R.
Since then, Alaine has developed a deep passion for karate, dedicating herself to the discipline and rigour it demands.
The South African JKA championships are set to take place at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena from 17 to 18 May. For Alaine, this event is not just a competition but an opportunity to showcase her skills and represent her province on a national stage.

This support will enable her to travel to Johannesburg and compete alongside fellow karate enthusiasts from across the country.
At the recent provincial championships held on 9 March at the Maties Tygerberg Campus sports hall, Alaine’s talent shone brightly as she secured first and second place in the Kata and kumite divisions for 12-year-old girls’ brown and black belts, respectively.
Her outstanding performance earned her a spot on the Western Province JKA team.
