Freezing conditions over the weekend turned parts of the Western Cape and the rest of the country into a winter wonderland, leaving a blanket of snow in several high-lying parts of the province.

While the South African Weather Service (SAWS) and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) both urged the public to be cautious when participating in outdoor activities, some found the opportunity to hike through the whitened wilderness difficult to resist.
These included Said Chhaibi, who visited the Matroosberg on Saturday and shared photos of his experience on social media.
