A Redditor posted an image of a dilapidated house for sale with the caption: ‘The current state of Cape Town’s house prices – A fixer-upper with loads of potential.’
As this image is both hilarious and frightening to anyone who does or would like to own property in the near future, it does give you a clear indication of what the property market is like at the moment, R3.5 million in Rondbebosch buys you a ‘whole half of a house.’

Read through some of the comments that are sure to bring a few giggles:
- “Renovators dream… you open the front door it comes off the hinges (something like that) – Barry Hilton”
- “just demolishing all that useless stuff will cost a lot of money as well”
- “isn’t that a bit much thou just for land?”
- “Really puts the “char” in character, lmao.”
- “Ready to move in, just paint over the scratches on the walls”
- “Description: “Beautiful home, needs a little work”
- “Joh, thats loads of potential.”
- “I bring up a screenshot of this house every time someone asks me when I’m going to think about buying”
- “It’s rustic”
