Anyone who has spent a day frolicking in the waters of Muizenberg Beach will be familiar with the iconic and colourful beach huts that line this bustling oasis.
Heck, even if you haven’t travelled that side of the world, you would have seen your favourite influencer post some epic shots of these Instagram-worthy huts.
However, if you’ve spent the day at Muizenberg recently, you’d know that they’ve seen better days. Thankfully, the Beach Hut Trust is hoping to turn things around through their new Save Our Beach Huts campaign.
As the name suggests, the campaign aims to raise funds and awareness for the restoration and maintenance of the beach huts in the most incredible way possible – a telethon!
According to IOL, the telethon will take place on Saturday, September 25, at Blue Route Mall from 9am until 2pm. A few local sponsors and celebrities will be picking up a phone and dialling a few numbers to help raise awareness and celebrate the incredible heritage of these Cape Town icons – a perfect way to celebrate Heritage Day!
Angela Gorman, a founding member of Save Our Beach Huts, states that she hopes the telethon will bring some much-needed awareness to the project and hopes that companies will get involved in this community project.
“The telethon is predominantly an awareness campaign to hopefully make companies aware that they can get behind this community project by offering to sponsor a hut. Raising awareness on Heritage Day is the best way to show that the public can make a difference by saving our historic and iconic beach huts,” said Gorman.
