Seeing our city shining bright and colourful on the face of a mug makes drinking a hot cuppa Joe or a classic herbal tea much cooler! Le Creuset’s new destination mugs just dropped, featuring iconic symbols from the Mother City, and even though this 350ml stoneware mug is raising the roof with its bold and creative design, locals are questioning whether it’s worth the R379 price tag attached to it.
Le Creuset began producing its first porcelain enamelled cast iron pots in 1925 from its foundry in Fresnoy le Grand, France and has expanded the types of products it offers since. Hand-crafted techniques are the name of the game here and these products are now sold in more than 60 countries around the world including the US, UK, and South Africa.
Even though Le Creuset boasts a rich history with the most stunning products on offer, some were not fans of the new destination mugs.
One Facebook user said “I’ll rather buy a ticket to Cape Town” while another said “I’d rather drink from a plastic bottle”. In the same vein, someone expressed that “At that price, it better not break at all” while another started doing a few sums and came to the realisation that it’ll be “R2 274 for 6 mugs”.
But the price was not the only topic of discussion. One social media user focused on the design, pointing out that they think “The C and N are too light in colour, so it looks like APE TOW”. They went on to say that “the person who designed this should be questioned”.
There is however light at the end of the tunnel, because tons of supporters described the mug as “lovely” and “beautiful” while planning to purchase this hot addition as a gift for a loved one.
Mixed reactions are at the forefront here, so will you be dipping your toe into the Le Creuset pool of stoneware and spice up the way you enjoy your drinks?
If you’re part of the squad who loves the design and the price tag attached to it, then make sure to purchase yours here.
