Ekasi Dynamik Fitness first opened its door in October after local bodybuilder, Dlule and partner Lelona Mbobosi brought their vision for a personal training centre to life. This was aimed at the residents in the Khayelitsha township.
The gym is a unique addition to the Makabeni Road where the city’s popular entertainment hub, Rands Cape Town is situated, reports Ground Up. The gym currently has limited equipment such as a rowing machine, a bike and a bench press that was donated by a friend of the owners, and was built from a repurposed shipping container.
According to Fitness Space, Dlule and Lelona opened the gym with an aim to help the residents of Khayelitsha live a healthier lifestyle. They are still on the hunt for additional financing to not only expand their business, but to provide healthier food options to the residents too.
One of the members from Somerset West, Ascifu Nadman said: “I have a set weight goal and the training I do here works. What I also love about this gym is that our trainer is consistent. He knows our goals and makes sure he trains us accordingly. I’ve been here three times a week.”
The very first training sessions began at Lookout Hill during the hard lockdown last year. In order to fund the startup of the business venture, Dlule sold his vehicle and Mbobosi used her savings to secure a rental space in the small business park.
“Sbu has always been passionate about gyming and bodybuilding. When I first met him, he was part of a fitness training group called Fit Movement Camp (FMC) with a few other guys. That’s where I saw his consistency, so when he split from that group, I followed him,” Mbobosi said.
Ekasi Dynamik Fitness is open seven days a week. The admission fee is R100 and the monthly fee is R199. Follow them on Facebook and choose fitness today!
