Capetonians felt their faith in humanity and the youth of today renewed, thanks to a recent video of a young boy from Paarl Boys’ High School helping an elderly lady cross the road.

The video has accrued 22 339 views since it was posted to Facebook on the weekend, and has received more than 200 shares. In the video, the pupil can be seen carrying groceries for the elderly woman and carefully helping her across the road and onto the sidewalk.

The video was shared with the caption “GOOD IS COOL! Baie mooi gedoen, Eloff Vermeulen! Ons is trots op jou!” which in English translates to “GOOD IS COOL! Very well done, Eloff Vermeulen! We are proud of you!”.

It seems the video was filmed by a passerby who recognised the act of kindness and wanted to share it with others.

Locals are sincerely impressed by the boys’ efforts and willingness to help. Many are concerned with how the future generations of men will turn out while our country struggles with gender-based violence. It is young men like this one that could bring about a better future for all.
