If you wade your way through hanging vines, following the sounds of a nearby jungle, you’ll find yourself in the lively inner-city eatery that is Kong Bar & Grill.

Cape Town is no stranger to vibrant hotspots for nightlife hang outs but few pull together a theme as well as Kong Bar & Grill. The atmosphere can only be likened to a bustling jungle teeming with life.

Draped in greenery, live plants hang from the roof and rise up from the floor, this two-level bar is the perfect spot to don your favourite leopard print dress or throw on that outfit that embraces your wild side.

Tribal prints and tones of green are complimented by wooden finishes with an industrial touch to draw on the haunt’s location. This can be observed from the vibey first floor that sports a blue lit bar which is framed by hanging chandeliers. The laid-back pool tables and leafy seating area add to industrial-like finishes too.

Kong helps you forget about the concrete jungle that is Cape Town’s CBD. It is the perfect place for friends to escape and venture into a different kind of wild setting. Whether you’re looking to dance, play a game of pool, chat up a storm, drink the night away or even indulge in some foodie delights, you’ll be in good hands.

While you’re sure to enjoy the cocktails that Kong has to offer, you’re also in for a feast.

The menu offers a variety of delightful dishes including vegetarian options. We recommend not skipping the starters or tapas as Kong’s options are nothing short of pure satisfaction.

From stuffed pepper dews to potatoes cooked to perfection, you’re in for an unforgettable food experience.

Mains are not to be missed with delicious vegetarian options like the Black Mushroom Burger and dreamy meat-lover options like the 250g aged rump.

During our visit the meals made it to our table in no time at all and were hot and moreish.

We almost didn’t have space for dessert but once we read what was on offer we managed to rise to the occasion.

The dark chocolate fondant was our dish of choice and we have to say, it was a good one. Warm to the touch and served with a side of almond ice cream, fresh gooseberries and apricot gel, it went down like a dream. The first spoon cut through the dome of chocolatey goodness like a knife through hot butter, releasing a fragrant smell of cocoa as the syrupy chocolate inside oozed out.

It was the cherry on top of the evening.

After we had our fill of food we ordered another drink and made our way upstairs for a game or two of pool. The ambiance was electric and the good music and vivid surroundings motivated us to spend a little extra time hanging out.

Every nook and cranny of Kong has a unique look and feel making the evening interesting and the night feel endless. If you’re in the CBD area be sure to pop by for the vibe and stay for everything else. You won’t regret paying a little visit to this inner-city rainforest.
