Yesterday saw South Africa dominate Sri Lanka 87-32 after an impressive 61-50 win over the Welsch in their tournament opener at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
It’s all looking good for the Spar Proteas at the Netball World Cup in Cape Town.
On Sunday, South Africa chalked up their second victory with a 87-32 win over Sri Lanka before another sold-out crowd at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The victory follows the Proteas’ 61-50 beating of ninth-ranked Wales on the opening day of the tournament on Friday – a victory that marked South Africa head coach Norma Plummer’s 100th win in 153 international matches.

The Proteas have never dropped a game to the south Asian nation. Karla Pretorius, Ine-Marie Venter, Phumza Maweni, and Lenize Potgieter were among the important players who received a break. This gave Van der Berg and Nichole Taljaard the chance to play together up front, and Jeante Strydom and Nicola Smith the chance to play together in defence.
“I am pleased with performance of the players tonight – this will do a lot of good for our confidence heading into the Jamaica game,’ said Plummer at the post-match press conference.
“I also think Elmere [van der Berg] showed up today when called upon.”
The coach issued a warning that the game against Jamaica today would be different. She brought up the fact that seven of their players play professionally in Australia.
With the win over Sri Lanka, South Africa joined Jamaica at the top of Pool C.
Their match this afternoon (Sunday) starts at 6pm.
