There’s something nostalgic about bakeries. A fore longing of an era gone by wherein which freshly baked bread wafted through communities, and sugary delights were always hot out of the oven, instead of processed and left on the shelf in preservative plastic.
If you’re someone who longs to be like Bell from Beauty and the Beast (as she skips through the village singing’ there goes the baker with his tray’) you might be intrigued to learn about one of Cape Town’s lesser-known bakeries. Now this is no ordinary bakery either, but a Charlie and the Chocolate factory of baking wholesale.
Sugarloaf Bakers is the prime destination for those who seek larger (and sometimes small) baking wonders. Have an event coming up and aren’t sure what will add the sugary touch you need? Sugarloaf Bakers. Just went through a breakup and need 52 cakes to ease your soul? Sugarloaf Bakers. Want to surprise your co-workers will treats that will actually make them smile? I stand on the hill – Sugarloaf Bakers!
The lovely little factory has a story of building, or baking themselves from scratch. Initially a home-based delight in Hout Bay, the business grew to supply the likes of Montague Gardens with their tasty treats. As life moved and the business grew, they decided to bake their own products, providing for some of your favourite cafes and restaurants. They then went on to supply hotels and others on the hospitality avenue with their wonderful creations.
They went on to have a little bakery dubbed coffee shop in Sea Point for half a decade but missed the thrill and diversity of wholesale. Their journey led them to buy a factory in Woodstock where they would go on to coin the name Sugarloaf Bakers since 2013.
So if you’re seeking the experts who have baked for the hotels and restaurants you’ve likely frequented, without the upsell, turn your heels toward Sugarloaf Bakers, or get ready to check them out on socials here:
