Whether you’re a local looking to rediscover your city or a curious tourist seeking hidden gems, Cape Town is a treasure trove of intriguing stories, secrets and experiences.
Cape Town Heritage Tours is your guide to delving beneath the surface of this city, with a promise to reveal tales of its historic neighbourhoods.
With Cameron Peters as your guide, this Sunday’s tour will commemorate Heritage Day by tracing the historical boundaries of the old Cape Town CBD.

The tour will begin at the Company’s Garden by the statue of Jan Smuts and will meander down to the imaginary line of the beach on Strand Street.
Along the way, participants will conquer the klippie steps of the Koopmans-de-Wet Huis and engage with a rich history of four centuries of souvenir sales at Greenmarket Square.
The adventure continues through dense thickets of foresight and nostalgia, leading up to St George’s Mall.
Here’s a taster:
‘Would you believe me if I told you the entire global diamond industry used to be run from one room overlooking The Crypt? You can still see the first spire of the first church in South Africa from the cathedral, but only if you stand at the right angle. That the cheapest decent coffee in town can be found next to Muller’s Optometrists on Longmarket?’
Some of the particulars:
The journey kicks off at the Jan Smuts statue on the corner of Wale Street and Adderley Street, concluding just under two hours later at the Taj Hotel.
You can park your vehicle on Queen Victoria Street or hop on a MyCiTi bus for hassle-free transportation.
