A sold out crowd is expected to descend on the Green Point Precinct for tomorrow’s crucial encounter.
‘The City has extended park and ride options given the expected record crowd of 55 000 for the URC Final,’ said the mayor of Cape Town, Geordin Hill-Lewis. ‘Ticket holders will now be able to board MyCiTi buses to the DHL Stadium from Century City, Civic Centre, Thibault Square and CTICC. Fans should please get to the stadium early.’
‘Let’s show our team there’s a city of 4.5 million behind them by ensuring an electric atmosphere at the stadium and in communities.’
‘Together we can do our part to make sure the trophy stays in Cape Town where it belongs.’
With the tickets for the game selling out within three hours of going on sale last week, the demand for parking is limited in and around the Green Point Precinct.
The CoCT will make over 450 bays available at the Civic Centre from 2:30pm on a first-come, first-served basis.
‘We have a Transport Management Plan which takes into consideration the logistics of getting over 50 000 people to the stadium, keeping them safe and ensuring they go home effortlessly,’ added Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith.
‘Our Safety and Security staff, including Traffic Services, Metro Police, Law Enforcement and Disaster Risk Management will be on hand in collaboration with SAPS and stadium security to ensure that the event happens without incident. We would like to encourage those who are going to the stadium to use the park and ride system to alleviate the traffic congestion. There will be plenty of buses before and after the game to ferry people. We ask those going to the game to please be respectful of the rights of residents and desist from parking illegally. Illegally parked vehicles will be fined and/or towed away.’
Cape Town will host the URC final for the second consecutive year after staging the inaugural final between the home team and the Vodacom Bulls in 2022.
