Cape Town welcomed two new arrivals of its largest remaining predator, as two Caracal kittens were spotted in Kirstenbosch in September 2021. Recently, the Urban Caracal Project, Cape Town received reports of more sightings of the young caracals in the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and they have grown a lot bigger.
Locals are understandably excited to see them, but the Urban Caracal Project feels that they should remind garden visitors to practice ethical wildlife photography.
They are asking the public to not get too close to the cats, and ensure you are not getting in the way of important activities, like hunting. The Urban Caracal Project recommends keeping at least 25m away.
If you see anyone disturbing or getting too close to these caracals, please alert: Elton le Roux – Kirstenbosch Estate Manager 021-799 8761.
