The South African Weather Service has issued a severe weather advisory for the Western Cape and Namaqua regions, in effect from Monday, 21 August at 5pm until Wednesday, 23 August at 12am. The warning is related to damaging waves that are anticipated along the coastline.
A sequence of cold fronts is predicted to bring about exceptionally rough sea conditions, resulting in wave heights ranging between 4 and 6 metres.
These conditions are anticipated to span from Cape Columbine to Plettenberg Bay starting from Monday afternoon, and the impact is set to extend to Alexander Bay by evening. The conditions are expected to persist until Wednesday.
Residents and coastal users in these areas should take precautionary measures during this period. Small vessels are at risk of being swamped and capsized due to the high wave heights.
Furthermore, there may be localised disruptions to beachfront activities and coastal users, such as rock anglers, are cautioned to avoid the risk of being swept off rocks.
