Calling all pizza lovers! The highly anticipated Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge is back and it’s time to find out who will be crowned South Africa’s favourite pizzeria of 2023, as determined by passionate consumers.
Last year’s competition was intense, with Cape Town’s Ferdinando’s taking the top spot, followed by Gino’s in Robertsham (the winner of the inaugural 2021 competition) in second place and Bardelli’s securing the third position.
The top 10 also featured notable pizzerias such as Gino’s (Stellenbosch), Enzo Pizzeria (Scottburgh), Caspita (George), Lucio’s (Randburg), Piccola Rossa (Edenvale), Osteria Rossa (Bedfordview) and Izzeria (Brooklyn).
Diego Milesi, the owner of Ferdinando’s, shared his excitement about winning the title last year and his decision to enter again this year. He expressed his dedication to bringing passion and love to the chefs at his establishment, ensuring the best Italian food and a welcoming atmosphere for customers.
Porcupine Ridge spokesman Lynton Kaiser acknowledged the stiff competition and friendly rivalry from last year, with 95 establishments vying for the top prize.
‘We are confident we’ll get more entries this year and the competition will be even more intense while still remaining loads of fun.’
