‘Qongqotwane’ is known as the wedding song in Xhosa culture; it’s a South African classic by the late Mama Africa, Miriam Makeba, who was known for her exceptional musical range and spectacular clicks.

Makeba’s song, loosely translated to English, has come to be popularly known as the ‘The Click’ song. One brave contestant, Siki Jo-An, performed the song during a blind audition in an episode of The Voice SA.
During a blind audition, the judges have their seats turned away from the stage so they can’t see the contestants, and they must make their choice based on the singing alone. If they highly rate the singing, they press the red button and only then can they turn around and see the contestant.
Siki’s impressive delivery resonated with the Makeba original, which resulted in a jaw-dropping performance. Seconds after Siki started singing, she had the late Ricky Rick convinced, followed by Lira, Riana Nel and then Francois van Coke.

Social media was abuzz, with many having praise to share. One user wrote, ‘She was supposed to audition and gave them a concert’, and another added ‘I’m covered in goosebumps’.
