The metro police K9 unit arrested two suspects after they allegedly hijacked a Toyota Quantum on Sunday, according to a recent press statement.
Unit members were travelling along the N2 at approximately 3pm when the two men were spotted crossing the road, pursued by members of a vehicle tracking company. The officers jumped into action, and the suspects were apprehended.

Officers informed the tracking company that the men had hijacked a Toyota Quantum earlier in Eerste River.
The suspects, aged 37 and 40, were found to have an imitation firearm, and the vehicle was recovered on Duinefontein Road.
This incident was among a ‘raft of enforcement successes’ from the City’s Safety and Security Directorate the previous week, as the City’s enforcement agencies have made 372 arrests and issued 69 116 fines for various transgressions.
Metro police officers made 61 arrests and issued 3 355 fines, while law enforcement officers made 268 arrests and issued 5 364 notices.
Traffic officers recorded a total of 60 397 offences, while also making 43 arrests, which included 26 arrests for driving under the influence, four for reckless and negligent driving and 13 for various other offences.
One hundred and twenty-seven vehicles were also impounded and 1 566 warrants of arrest were executed.
While many of the key categories were static or saw ‘slight decreases weekend on weekend’, there is speculation that there will be ‘an increase in the next cycle’, as it would coincide with the payday weekend, according to Alderman JP Smith, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security.
