The South African Police Service (SAPS) seized illegal firearms and arrested two suspects on Thursday, 7 March 2024 in Mitchells Plain, according to a media statement released by the SAPS on Friday, 8 March 2024.

After responding to a ‘complaint of a shooting incident’ that was in progress, Mitchells Plain police members ‘came under attack’ by three males, after arriving at an open field in Falstaff Street, Eastridge.
After one of the three males was accosted, police members recovered ‘two 9mm pistols with ammunition’.
This resulted in the arrest of the suspect on charges of ‘attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition’.
That evening, police members attached to the Western Cape Public Order Policing conducted a tracing operation in Beacon Valley.
The platoon ‘pounced on an address in Swemmer Street’ and recovered a .38 special revolver with ammunition after searching the occupants of the address.
They detained a 27-year-old man on a charge of ‘possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition’.
Both suspects are due to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court for their respective charges.
