The South African Police Service (SAPS) have arrested six suspects in total on two separate occasions in Mitchells Plain and George for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition on Monday, 6 May.
This is according to a recent press statement issued by the SAPS.

On Monday, at about 9pm, members attached to the Mitchells Plain SAPS responded to information regarding a firearm that was kept at an address at Garcia Street, Tafelsig in Mitchells Plain.
Upon their arrival at the address, a 34-year-old man was found on the premises and ensued with a thorough search of the Wendy house that was situated on the same premises.
SAPS members discovered a .38 special revolver with ammunition during the search, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect and the firearm being confiscated.
The suspect faces a charge of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and was scheduled to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court today.
On the same day in George, at about 1:30am, members attached to the George SAPS conducted a vehicle checkpoint on the corners of Rand Street and PW Botha Boulevard in Tamsui Industria, George.
After pulling over a Toyota Etios with five occupants, aged between 20 and 35, SAPS members searched the occupants and vehicle.
A firearm and ammunition were discovered on the driver-side floor, and were subsequently confiscated.
All five occupants were arrested and detained for the illegal possession of a firearm, after none of the occupants could produce a valid firearm licence nor ownership.
The five suspects appeared in the George Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 7 May.
