The Cape Town Museum invites people of all ages in the metro area to participate in a mapping project by sharing their memories, personal experiences, stories, and desired changes to Cape Town landmarks.

The Cape Town Mapping Project is a Cape Town Museum initiative that aims to map Cape Town residents’ stories.
The Mapping Project, which takes place on the museum’s website, features different coloured pins on the map that direct visitors to story categories.
These categories are: Fun and leisure time, Silences in the landscape, Resistance and protest, Religion and reflection, Learning and education, and Working in Cape Town.

‘We invite individuals of all ages from communities across Cape Town and surrounding areas to share their memories about a place in Cape Town, or simply a personal experience or thought about a place, perhaps a story about its significance to the wider community or a change you would like to see,’ said the museum
‘It could also be a story that sheds light on a moment in history that is often ‘under-told’ or forgotten. The main factor is that the contribution needs to be linked to a geographic place so that it can be shared through our map.’
The museum also stated that it welcomes contributions from community organisations, activists, change agents, and anyone who is knowledgeable about social history, buildings, and the natural landscape surrounding Cape Town.
To submit your contribution:
- Complete the online submission form. Fill out the form and include a photo, text, audio, or video recording.
- You can also visit the Memory Centre (on the site of the Cape Town Medical Museum in Green Point) where the staff will assist you to record and submit your contribution.
