Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story
Pieter Toerian presents a musical trip down memory lane with the brand-new, full-scale production of this hit Rock ‘n Roll jukebox musical.
The star that was Buddy Holly began as a country and western singer in Texas. After forming The Crickets alongside his two friends, Buddy shot to stardom in 1957 with the support of local DJ Hipockets Duncan. Just two years later, Buddy died tragically in a plane crash that shook the world. Some say ‘it was the day the music died’.
Come and relive the music and incredible legacy of the young man with glasses whose musical career spanned an all-too-brief period during the Golden Day of the Rock ‘n Roll era.
Grooving from your seats is guaranteed as spectators can expect two acts jam-packed with all your favourite songs, including ‘La Bamba’, the timeless ‘Peggy Sue’, ‘Rave On’, ‘That’ll Be The Day’ and more.
- Date: 28 March to 15 April 2023
- Duration: 2.5 hours

Artists on a Spectrum 2023
In celebration of World Autism Awareness Month, the Artscape’s Marble Foyer will be adorned with artworks presented by Autism Western Cape in an exhibition entitled ‘Artists on a Spectrum 2023’.
The exhibition aims to bring awareness to autism issues as well as provide deep insights into these young autistic artists and the means by which they are using their creative voice to express themselves.
‘Artists on a Spectrum’ was birthed in 2019 as an innovative way to help autistic artists gain access to the art sphere, not only reaping the therapeutic benefits of art but also gaining exposure and a means of income.
The exhibition will run until Tuesday, 18 April 2023.
Krismis van Map Jacobs
A touching production centred around the scars left behind by Apartheid on the Cape Coloured community. Bringing to the fore social issues that continue to ravage the Cape Flats such as poverty and unemployment, the production grapples with the search for identity and forgiveness – a dilemma that remains visibly prevalent today.
After seven years in prison, a feared gang leader is released on parole. Has Map Jacobs become a model citizen, or is he still the same old Map? Set in the infamous Cape Flats, the drama offers a lens into the way of life of the uprooted, their love and suffering, as well as the desperate longing for a better existence in the aftermath of Apartheid’s forced relocation.
- Date: 13 April 2023
