The City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue teams are among approximately 50 of the finest rescue teams worldwide in the final stage of the World Rescue Challenge being held on the island of Lanzarote, Spain.

Cape Town is the sole representative of the African continent, the team is striving to secure a position among the world’s top ten in this prestigious invitational competition.


The World Rescue Challenge seeks to bring together rescue and emergency experts for the purpose of sharing knowledge and exchanging information with the goal of enhancing skills in post-crash intervention and the integration of rescue and medical care.


South Africans are encouraged to show support for the team by tuning in to the live YouTube stream of the event. In this competition, they face a race against time to free an entrapped patient from a simulated motor vehicle accident wreckage.
