The event, titled ‘Building a New Fashion Brand’, was held at the trendy Youngblood Africa in the CBD on Wednesday, 29 March 2023.
A group of 25 emerging designers and entrepreneurs were handpicked to participate in the event, which was part of the City’s Emerging Artists Programme.
The session was presented by Devon Anderson, Feroza Webster and Robyn Agulhas, who shared their insights and expertise on various aspects of the fashion industry, including the design process, identifying a customer base, marketing, after-sales and networking.
Councillor Patricia Van der Ross, the mayoral committee member for community services and health, said that youth development is one of the City’s key priorities and the Emerging Artists Programme gives young people an opportunity to explore their creativity in different sectors.
The fashion industry, in particular, has proven to be a natural fit for young entrepreneurs.
The Masterclass Series was developed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of various facets of a specific topic. The classes are facilitated by different creative industry specialists who have a wealth of experience and success within their respective fields.
Each masterclass topic is unique and designed to engage and inspire the audience.
Excitingly, the next round of masterclasses will take place later in the year and will focus on music and entertainment, visual art and film.
Participants can expect to hear from industry heavyweights like DJ Eazy and Riaz Solker. Keep an eye out for updates and take the first step towards making your dreams a reality!
