The Police Dive Unit is continuing an ongoing search operation for a 31-year-old male, from Franschhoek, who went missing in the surf line at Strand Beach on Wednesday, 4 January 2023.

The NSRI Gordon’s Bay crew responded to a call of a person who had gone missing in the mid-surf break at Strand Beach at about 4:45pm on Wednesday, 4 January 2023.
A team of NSRI rescue swimmers, CoCT lifeguards, the Law Enforcement Marine Unit, WC Government Health EMS, GB Med ambulance services, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, SA Police Services and the Strand community neighbourhood watch responded.
The NSRI rescue craft was launched, and an EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter along with a WC Government Health EMS rescue squad drone were deployed.
There remains no sign of the male who had been reported missing in the water, despite the extensive air, sea and shoreline search.
According to a statement released by NSRI, “5 friends from Franschoek had been at the beach for the day together when the man reportedly went missing in the water while swimming with 2 of the friends.”
The search continues, with all units keeping watch.
