Intending to improve learners’ performance and engagement with their schoolwork, the refurbishment project began in 2021, according to Cape Region General Manager Johan Taljaard.
‘This investment to Hout Bay Secondary School has culminated in the construction and equipping of an interactive resource centre and library, creating a comfortable, stimulating and supportive environment conducive to research, reading and quiet learning for nearly 1 000 learners between grade 8 and 12,’ Taljaard explained.
Through cooperation with national government departments, SANParks CSI Social Legacy Projects provides much-needed facilities and services in communities that border our national parks, ultimately creating a lasting positive impact on these communities.
The projects are implemented as part of its socio-economic development strategic objectives, which strive to advance SANParks’ vision of being ‘a world-class system of sustainable national parks reconnecting and inspiring society’.
Since its inception, the programme has implemented a total of 50 projects, benefitting an average of over 30 000 learners in almost 50 schools across the country.

According to SANParks, the Western Cape Department of Education welcomed the much-needed donation to the school and will maintain the facility for the benefit of present and future learners at Hout Bay Secondary School.
