After a long hiatus, the fun-filled Volunteer Wildlife Services (VWS) Open Day is back! A day of family fun dedicated to raising awareness around wildfires.

This year’s Open Day event is set to be held on the 3 December at the Newlands Forest Fire Base from 9 am to 4 pm.
You can expect a day filled with exciting activities such as abseiling, snake displays, fire truck rides, tug-of-war, and indoor and outdoor exhibitions including helicopter displays. Firefighters will also be demonstrating their firefighting skills.
The (VWS) combats dangerous wildfires, with 300 volunteers located at 4 bases in the Western Cape (Newlands, South Peninsula (Noordhoek, Stellenbosch/Helderberg) and are on standby 24 hours a day to respond to fires and emergencies. The VWS has assisted the Table Mountain National Park, Cape Nature and Overberg District Municipality fight some of the wildest fires in the Western Cape.
