Creativity constantly buzzes around Cape Town. We’re so fortunate to be exposed to a vast amount of art, be it in one of our numerous theatres, at galleries or simply walking in the streets. Now we get the opportunity to witness and engage with contemporary art created by influential artists around the world – all for free.
The Institute for Creative Arts (ICA) is hosting its third LIVE ART festival over 10 days across the CBD. Enjoy one of 34 one-night-only performances by 33 artists from 12 countries, insightful workshops and panel discussions where you can learn and explore the artists’ work and processes in more detail, open forums, and 15 premieres (including five local productions).
LIVE ART combines cutting-edge visual art and challenging performances of dance, music and literature to form a dynamic and provocative theatrical journey across the Mother City. Audiences can expect to see a selection of public, collaborative and often transgressive performative artworks that are thought-provoking and inspirational.
Project manager and co-curator James Macdonald says, ‘The free and public nature of the ICA LIVE ART Festival is vested in a commitment to the value of contemporary live art as a means of facilitating encounters that encourage people to think and feel about a range of important issues in new and different ways’.
To attend performances at LIVE ART, check out their impressive programme and confirm your attendance for your chosen performances online at the ICA website, which kicks off this Friday 10 February at Hiddingh Hall in Gardens.
