Season Three of the wildly popular Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale will be available for streaming come June, and the tagline of the new season has had many fans in a tizzy: “Witness the birth of a revolution.” Many fans of the show felt that the conclusion of Season Two was much too bleak, and the latest installment promises to deliver on the drama and rebellion viewers have been waiting for.

“If I’m going to change things, I’m going to need allies,” Offred/June, the main character and narrator of the series, can be heard saying in the trailer. “Heresy, that’s what you get punished for. Not for being part of the resistance, because officially, there is no resistance. Not for helping people escape, because officially, there’s no such thing as escape.”

Resistance seems to be the central theme of the new season, which picks up from when Offred/June is about to escape the oppressive state of Gilead with her baby, but decides to stay and search for her older daughter instead.

The Handmaid’s Tale is a dystopian drama web television series based on the novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood.  The plot centres around a dystopian future following a Second American Civil War wherein a totalitarian society subjects fertile women, called “Handmaids”, into servitude to bear children for the infertile wives of “commanders”.
