For two years Cape Town’s kind crafting community has made sure that each child at a designated youth care centre receives a handcrafted toy of their favourite animal for Christmas.
This has been made possible by Andie Reeves, her Cape Town Craft Club and its annual Kind Craft Club toy drive.

Andie Reeves is a fibre artist and teacher specialising in embroidery, weaving and making clothes.
Andie started the Cape Town Craft Club as a way to combine all of her passions: making stuff, teaching, and hanging out with people.
Her annual Kind Craft Club toy drive calls on Cape Town crafters to crochet, knit or sew animal toys for children in need.

This year, the Kind Craft Club is supporting Marsh Memorial Homes, a youth care centre for children who have been neglected, abandoned or abused. Marsh Memorial strives to rehabilitate and reunite children with their families or communities.

The Kind Craft Club has asked the children at Marsh Memorial Home what their favourite animals are, and now it’s asking local creatives to craft handmade versions of these animals in time for Christmas!

For its 2021 toy drive, the Kind Craft Club’s contributors made toys for the children at Fikelela Children’s Centre, a home for children who are either affected by or infected with HIV/AIDS and have been abandoned, abused and neglected.
Each child received a handmade toy of their favourite animal for Christmas.

How it works:
Step 1 Choose an animal you would like to make. You are welcome to make more than one if you have the capacity!
Step 2 Fill in the sign-up form or email capetowncraftclub@gmail.com your choice.
Step 3 Receive your confirmation email, including your designated child’s name.
Step 4 Make your toy(s)!
Step 5 Drop off your toy(s) at one of the designated drop-off points (to be confirmed) by December 20th at the latest.
Please ensure you are able to commit to making your toy by 20 December 2022!
