The City’s Arts and Culture branch is hosting its Emerging Artist Programme this week. This group exhibition serves as a platform to display artwork by a group of talented local artists using an array of artistic mediums.
Titled ‘Mother City,’ this exhibition opened its doors on Wednesday, 4 October at the 6 Spin Street Gallery in Cape Town. Featuring 18 local artists, the primary objective of this exhibition is to explore the relationship between the city’s environment and the artistic process. It encourages reflection on how artists both shape and are shaped by the ever-evolving identity of Cape Town.

‘Supporting this arts programme will not only create a platform for artists to show their work, but it is also an opportunity to experience art in its many forms. The Emerging Artists Exhibition means a lot to aspiring and emerging artists, as it provides avenues to improve their practice and contributes towards building unique and diverse cultural expression in Cape Town. The programme also aims to support artists in Cape Town with limited resources through opportunities for exposure, skill development and networking in the creative industry,’ said mayoral committee member for community services and health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross.
