At the opening, Farnaaz Johadine, acting executive director of core functions at Iziko Museums of South Africa, highlighted the universal appeal of ancient arts engraved on natural materials like bone, rock and wood.
She drew parallels between San rock art in South Africa and oracle bone inscriptions in China, emphasising the importance of cultural exchanges and mutual learning between African and Chinese civilisations.
Chinese Consul-General You Wenze also spoke, talking about the enduring relationship between China and South Africa and noting the growing interest in Chinese language and culture among South Africans.
