As autumn leaves turn golden and fall, excitement in the Helderberg area rises with the coming of the annual Gordon’s Bay Winter Wonderland Festival, from June 14-16 to June 21-23.

Facing north and protected from chilly winter winds, Gordon’s Bay enjoys a ‘Secret Season’, a warm winter, some 2-3 degrees warmer than Cape Town. This community-driven event has grown exponentially and some 50 000 visitors are expected during this school holiday period.

Not to be missed is the popular Carnival Parade on Friday, 14 at 6pm. Fun-loving residents and businesses dress up with lights and parade to the cheering of the crowds, who also pay tribute to the ‘Heroes of Gordon’s Bay’ – the Firefighters, Security groups and local Charities. The well-known local band, Tequila, will also perform.

The festival helps to make local businesses sustainable and promotes the pleasures of this quaint village thereby growing its tourism market. From its humble beginnings on 2011, the festival has been solely organised by a dedicated group of highly motivated volunteers. This is an event by Gordon’s Bay for Gordon’s Bay and everyone is invited.

Some activities of the Festival include: Miss Winter Wonderland Contest; Photo Booth; Delicious Food Trucks and Pop-ups; Craft and Market Stalls; City of Cape Town displays; Amazing Face Paintings; Beer Tent; The Enchanted Winter Palace; Kids Entertainment; Live Music; Charity displays; Electronic Waste Collection Day; Beach Clean-Up and, for the whole family, one of the biggest Amusement Parks in the country.
