Greenpop, a leading environmental organisation, is gearing up for its annual tree planting and restoration event, Reforest Fest 2024.
Slated for its 12th consecutive year from 29 March to 1 April 2024, this event takes place at the scenic Bodhi Khaya Nature Retreat in the Overberg region.
More than just a tree planting initiative, Reforest Fest is a blend of nature engagement, artistic expression and community bonding.
The festival invites participants from various walks of life to plant trees, partake in diverse workshops and enjoy live music in a serene natural setting.

This year’s event promises a variety of activities for attendees of all ages, including interactive art installations, wellness activities and a range of workshops.
The retreat, set in the tranquil Platbos Forest near Gansbaai, offers varied accommodations, including camping, comfortable rooms and luxury glamping tents.
The essence of Reforest Fest lies in its commitment to ecological restoration.
2024’s ambitious goal is to plant 5 000 trees, contributing to the revival of indigenous forests and ecosystems.
Beyond tree planting, the festival is a celebration of community, featuring top-notch musical performances, a variety of plant-based cuisine and a learning hub with workshops and entertainment.
The festival’s schedule is packed with engaging activities. Children can enjoy guided foraging walks, fire-making, and Easter egg hunts, while adults can start their day with yoga and end it with drum circles.
Culinary adventures await at Reforest Fest, with plant-based tapas by Veld and Sea and the anticipated Harvest Feast picnic lunch by Chef Bridget Bartleman.
Wine enthusiasts can enjoy tastings at the WWF’s Conservation Wine Tent, offering a selection of Western Cape wines.
Teenagers aren’t left out, with the Phoenix Bonfire Building Workshop providing an opportunity to create and enjoy spectacular bonfire artwork.
For the little ones, Nature Plays Forest School organises creative clay workshops and mindfulness nature walks.
Since 2011, Greenpop’s Reforest Fest has been pivotal in the restoration of Platbos Forest Reserve and Bodhi Khaya Nature Retreat, planting over 125 000 trees to date.
This year, the festival expands its planting efforts to neighbouring conservation properties, aspiring to be Africa’s largest citizen-led restoration festival.
