Anticipation is building throughout the Breede River Valley as an exceptional musical event approaches. The esteemed Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra is poised to grace Robertson with a performance at the Oos-Kerk on Sunday, 8 October at 3pm.
The proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary in McGregor.
Eseltjiesrus serves as a permanent sanctuary for donkeys that have been rescued from dire circumstances, subjected to mistreatment or are now enjoying their retirement years in peace.

This musical celebration seeks to highlight the unifying power of music.
Organiser Johan van Zijl expands on the opportunity to extend this privilege to others: ‘By sponsoring any number of tickets, younger and older people can share the privilege of enjoying great music, which might not be possible for them otherwise. Public support for the sponsorship of tickets for old age homes, choirs, youth homes and music students will be highly appreciated by everyone.’
Comprising 55 gifted musicians hailing from diverse cultural backgrounds, the orchestra presents an array of captivating musical pieces aptly titled ‘Harmonies for All.’
Tickets are priced at R150 for adults and R75 for students, and are currently up for grabs at tourism offices in Robertson, Montagu, and McGregor. Residents of Worcester can secure their seats at the Durban Street Animal Clinic.
Tickets are also accessible online via email communication with [email protected].
About Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary
Located just outside McGregor, Eseltjiesrus earned its welfare organisation registration 16 years ago, and its operational activities and financial affairs are overseen by a capable board. This sanctuary offers a permanent abode and proficient, compassionate care for donkeys in need, whether they are retired, neglected or have suffered abuse.
Within these walls, they can enjoy their golden years in the company of fellow donkeys, free from stress, with shelter, ample nourishment and care until their dignified passing.
Beyond its premises, Eseltjiesrus extends assistance to donkeys by providing educational opportunities to their carers, owners and animal welfare professionals.
The sanctuary welcomes visitors from Thursday to Sunday between 10am and 4pm, and a helpline is also available daily at 023 625 1593.
