Malcolm Johnson (65), Rudolph Williams (66), Brian Daniels (52) and Franklin Richard Peceur (51) returned to Cape Town on Thursday, 15 June 2023, after completing the Heal Our Children Marathon, a 1100-kilometre journey over 40 challenging days.

The team drove to Richards Bay and walked the distance back to Cape Town during daylight hours, from sunrise to sunset. Peceur, one of the team members, dedicated his walk to his five-year-old relative, who also happens to be a patient at Red Cross Hospital.

The team gathered approximately R20 000 in funds, which contributes to the ultimate goal of raising R100 million over a span of two years.
Currently, the orthopaedic department, which provides specialised care for bone and joint-related issues, is dispersed among different departments within the hospital and an off-site facility.
Construction of the Orthopaedic Unit is scheduled to start in September 2023, boasting 30 beds to accommodate patients in need of specialised care. In addition to the orthopaedic unit, the project also encompasses vital improvements such as the enhancement of day surgery facilities, the modernisation of medical records facilities and the relocation of the blood bank.
Though the team fell short of their initial target of R250 000, they plan to keep a back-a-buddy page open for donations, continuing their unwavering support for this crucial cause.
Contributions can be made towards the cause by visiting the Children’s Hospital Trust. For further inquiries or to make a donation, please feel free to reach out to Peceur at 083 772 9411 or Johnson at 083 9833 351.
