The second Comic Con Cape Town officially kicked off on Saturday, 27 April at the Cape Town International Convention Center 2 (CTICC 2), where attendees were exposed to all facets of pop culture.
This included video games, comics, anime, cosplay, memorabilia, local and international celebrity guests, panel discussions and more.
With over 200 stalls and a fully packed schedule for the entire duration of Comic Con, from 27 April until 1 May, there was something for everyone, as the event consisted of two floors.

Over 30 000 to 40 000 people are expected to attend the entire duration of the event, according to Carol Weaving, managing director.
It is also expected that the overall attendance will be more this year than last year, she added.
Level 1
Located on the first floor, and consisting of the main stage, Cosplay Central, Artist Alley, Pop culture content zone, Tabletop gaming, food truck village, medics and a plethora of stalls, the first floor has a lot to offer.
Competitions include a ‘casual cosplay’ competition, where attendees of the event can participate, and one where local and international cosplayers can participate with cash prizes for both, on Wednesday, 1 May.
Level 2
The second floor, consisting of Kidscon, Telkom House of Gaming, The Toyota Gaming Engine, a Toys R Us pop-up shop, Character meet and greets and Red Bull Kumite adds to the many forms of entertainment at the event.
Red Bull Kumite is a ‘bracket based tournament structure within the the Street Fighter 6 video game’, where 32 players compete until there is one winner, according to Calvin van den Berg, marketing manager.
‘Every year the Red Bull Kumite is hosted in a different country, and last year South Africa was fortunate enough to [host] it,’ said Van den Berg. The winner stands a chance to represent South Africa in the Kumite finals in Paris in 2025, he added.
Food and refreshment stalls are also available throughout the event, as well as outside the CTICC 2 building.
