The 4th annual Night Run to Honour Nurses run series is back and the Cape Town race will be on the of 3rd September.
The aim of the runs throughout country is to raise awareness for the critical nursing shortage and awareness for the current healthcare crisis.
However, all monies raised from the races will go towards bursaries to help students become nurses and the runners’ entry fees will go towards bursaries for student nurses.

The brain child of the event, Sister Teresa Basson, started the Nurse Campaign in 2015, after seeing the desperate situation in our public hospitals and community clinics.
“Fifty percent of the nurses in our country are nearing retirement age. We are losing 9,000 nurses annually due to retirement and death, but currently only have capacity to train 3,000 nurses each year. The Night Run events create a healthy public platform to urge government to address the current healthcare crisis and train more nurses.”
About 51 million people are dependent upon the Department of Health for the healthcare services which are provided through 350 Public Hospitals and, approximately to 3000 Community Clinics.
In addition, an estimated shortage of over 30 000 professional nurses currently employed in the Government Sector, where the Patient to Nurse ratio is at times 25:1 – meaning 25 patients are likely to be cared for by one nurse. This series will help promote a culture of honour and gratitude towards nurses who are the backbone of our Healthcare System.
Let’s support this incredible initiative by purchasing tickets, entries to the cost of R100 per person and R50 for children under the age of 12, with all proceeds being donated to the Exceptional Nurse Campaign Bursary Fund.
