Spend a soulful evening in the heart of Cape Town’s bustling city centre, where spoken words fill the air as rhythmically as a live music performance in an intimate and inclusive space. Third House Poetry is kickstarting 2024 with another Open Mic Poetry event.

Discover some of the poetry scene’s finest local talents hidden within the Mother City as they unveil their inner worlds and inspirations over the new year in front of friends, family and strangers in The Pink Room at the Gorgeous George Hotel on Monday, 15 January.
Like all Third House Poetry events, there will be a sign-up sheet at the venue for those who wish to perform. The stage is open to any and all that is willing to share, but sign up as soon as possible because only the first 25 poets get to perform.
Just keep in mind that each poet is given one poem to perform, unless exceptionally short, in which two poems can be performed so that everyone is able to get a turn to share their piece.
Also, diversity is always a valued friend at Third House poetry nights so poets are more than welcome to perform in their native tongue.
The beautiful thing about poetry is that with just a few lines, a metaphor or two and the right kind of tweaking, even a sea of strangers will somehow relate to the sadness, joy and all emotions in between, simply from listening to your words and your voice.
Follow Third House Poetry on Instagram and Facebook for snippets of previous events and to keep up to date with all future poetry nights – apparently, there are many in store.
In the words of Third House Poetry: ‘Let’s make 2024 a year of poetry, the likes of which Cape Town has never seen!’
