Proceeds from the event will go towards the Blankets for Old Bones Initiative – started by Marcelle van Speyk, to support the senior community.
‘Family means the world to me. My gran was the last to pass over, but before she did, she had a few trips to frail care. Whilst visiting her I had the heart-breaking experience of walking past rooms occupied by what I can only describe as lonely, sad, forgotten souls. A sight I will never forget. That was the day I made a promise to my God that I would do as much as possible to make their days easier and possibly more enjoyable.’
The event is catered to ladies who don’t play golf – no experience or training is required. ‘I have always wanted to play golf, but never plucked up the courage to do so. I mentioned this in passing to a few of my lady friends one evening and when they agreed that they felt the same, an idea was born.’
‘Why not have the very first golf day in Worcester’s history that caters specifically for ladies that can not play golf? And in turn make it a worthy endeavour and link it to the Blankets for Old Bones initiative? Three GiGi’s later…and growing every year.’
This year, the GiGi Classic Charity Golf Tournament will feature diverse guest appearances, including Mel die Storieverteller, Annette Havenga, radio presenters Francois Coertze and Didi Cooke, Johan de Jager, a member of South African traditional folk music band the Williston Stoftrappers, and SA Rugby Legends player Joe van den Berg.
