South African R&B fans have something special to look forward to this November, with Grammy Award-winning artist Leon Bridges set to make his long-awaited South African debut with two exclusive performances, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The Texas-born singer, songwriter and performer will play in Johannesburg before heading to Cape Town for an open-air show at the iconic Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden.
Bridges will first take the stage at Marks Park in Emmarentia, Johannesburg, on Saturday, 28 November, before bringing the tour to Cape Town on Monday, 30 November.
The Cape Town performance will take place at Kirstenbosch, with Msaki confirmed as the support act.
For an artist whose music has always looked back while moving forward, the South African shows arrive at an interesting point in Bridges’ career.
His unmistakable R&B sound draws heavily from the genre’s golden era, but his songwriting and performances have helped give that influence a distinctly modern identity.
Bridges first captured international attention with his debut album Coming Home, before continuing to develop his sound through albums including Good Thing, Gold-Diggers Sound and Leon.
Now, another chapter is about to begin.
His fifth studio album, Happiness Anytime, is scheduled for release on 25 September 2026, meaning South African audiences will be among the first to experience his latest era when he arrives later in the year.
Bridges has also built a reputation for working across genres, collaborating with artists from different musical backgrounds while maintaining the soulful vocal style that has become synonymous with his name.
And after spending years wanting to perform in South Africa, the singer says he is ready to finally make the trip.
‘I’ve wanted to play South Africa for a long time, and I’m really excited to finally make it there, especially with this album, for these two special shows. I can’t wait to share the music with everyone,’ says Bridges.
